Changes in Community Knowledge on Dengue Prevention Through an Integrated Intervention Using Ovitraps, Mosquito Repellent Sprays, and SIJENTIK in Yosodadi, Metro City
Abstract
Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a vector-borne disease that requires community involvement in controlling mosquito breeding sites and monitoring larvae. This community service activity aimed to determine changes in community knowledge regarding DHF prevention following an integrated intervention consisting of DHF education, training in making ovitraps, training in making mosquito repellent sprays, and an introduction to the SIJENTIK Yosodadi app. The activity used a one-group pretest-posttest design and was conducted in RW 01, Yosodadi Village, Metro Timur Subdistrict, Metro City. A total of 21 participants with complete data were recruited using total sampling. Knowledge was measured using a validated 16-question questionnaire. During the implementation, the community successfully produced 21 ovitrap units and 21 bottles of repellent spray, and all participants were successfully registered as users of the SIJENTIK application. The average knowledge score increased from 8.48 ± 1.50 to 14.24 ± 1.09, with an average change of 5.76 points. On the pre-test, 90.5% were in the “adequate” category, whereas in the post-test, 100% reached the “good” category. The paired t-test showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). An integrated intervention based on education and practice, accompanied by digital monitoring introduction, effectively increases participants’ knowledge and supports the actual independence of community empowerment in dengue prevention.
