Consilium: Berkala Kajian Konseling dan Ilmu Keagamaan is a scholarly periodical dedicated to the development and dissemination of research in counseling, guidance and counseling, Islamic guidance and counseling, and religious studies. The journal was established to provide an academic platform for researchers, lecturers, practitioners, and students to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and professional practice in these fields.
Consilium has been published in print since 2013. Its transition to an online journal began after obtaining an electronic International Standard Serial Number (E-ISSN) from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) on November 18, 2018. The first online issue was designated as Volume 6 Number 1, 2019.
During its development, Consilium continuously improved its editorial management, digital infrastructure, publication standards, indexing coverage, and scholarly visibility. The journal also strengthened its focus and scope, editorial governance, article template, DOI implementation, and institutional collaboration.
The development of Consilium: Berkala Kajian Konseling dan Ilmu Keagamaan can be summarized as follows:
- 2013 — Consilium began publication as a print-based scholarly journal.
- November 18, 2018 — Consilium obtained its E-ISSN and began its transition to an online journal using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
- 2019 — The first online volume was published as Volume 6. Due to several technical and managerial considerations during the initial transition to online publishing, the first issue was released in July 2019 and the second issue in December 2019. The journal subsequently established a regular publication frequency of two issues per year.
- May 2019 — Consilium began to be indexed by Google Scholar.
- June 2019 — Consilium was indexed by MORAREF.
- October 2019 — Consilium was registered with Indonesia OneSearch.
- December 2019 — Consilium began implementing Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for its published articles.
- February 2020 — Consilium was indexed by GARUDA (Garba Rujukan Digital).
- January 2022 — Consilium was officially accredited by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia as a SINTA 5 accredited journal, with the accreditation covering publications from Volume 6 Number 1, 2019 to Volume 10 Number 2, 2023, pursuant to the relevant accreditation decree.
- February 2022 — Consilium refined its Focus and Scope to establish a more specific scholarly orientation in counseling, guidance and counseling, Islamic counseling, and religious studies.
- February 2022 — Consilium underwent an editorial and journal management restructuring to strengthen its governance and publication quality.
- April 4, 2022 — Consilium established an academic collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Islamic Guidance and Counseling Experts (PABKI).
- June 2022 — Consilium introduced a new article template as part of its efforts to improve publication consistency and scholarly presentation.
- June 22, 2023 — Consilium was officially indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), marking an important milestone in strengthening the journal's international visibility and commitment to open-access scholarly publishing.
- January–June 2024 — Consilium published Volume 11 Number 1, 2024, which became the last issue published before a temporary interruption in its regular publication cycle.
- July 2024–December 2025 — Temporary Publication Hiatus. Following the publication of Volume 11 Number 1, Consilium experienced recurrent technical and cybersecurity disruptions affecting the stability and operational reliability of its journal website. Among these disruptions were malicious activities associated with online gambling content and attacks that affected the journal's digital infrastructure and made the OJS platform unstable for regular editorial and publication operations.
Considering the importance of maintaining the integrity of the editorial process, the reliability of the journal platform, and the quality of published scholarly works, the editorial management decided not to retrospectively publish or backfill the missed issues. Consequently, Volume 11 Number 2, 2024, Volume 12 Number 1, 2025, and Volume 12 Number 2, 2025 were not published.
- 2026 — Journal Revitalization and New Beginning. Following improvements to the journal's technical infrastructure, editorial governance, security, and publication management, Consilium initiated a comprehensive revitalization process. Rather than retrospectively filling the publication gap, the journal decided to resume publication transparently according to the actual chronology of its publication history.
Accordingly, Volume 13 Number 1, 2026 is designated as the starting point of a new phase in the development of Consilium: Berkala Kajian Konseling dan Ilmu Keagamaan. This issue represents the journal's renewed commitment to regular publication, stronger editorial governance, research integrity, transparent peer-review processes, digital security, open-access principles, and continuous improvement in accordance with contemporary standards of scholarly journal publishing.
