Journal of Contemporary Islam and Muslim Societies [JCIMS] is a peer reviewed academic journal, established in 2016 as part of the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sumatera Utara, Medan. The Journal of Contemporary Islam and Muslim Societies [JCIMS] is a biannual international academic journal dedicated to publishing studies on contemporary trends in Islam and Muslim societies within the Malay-Indonesian world from the 20th to the 21st centuries. Specifically, the journal emphasizes areas such as: (1) Local interpretations of Islam in the Malay-Indonesian world, manifested in manuscripts and institutions, (2) Their responses to global dynamics, (3) The implications of current trends for the future of Muslim societies in the region, and (4) Muslim minority groups within the region.

JCIMS has been accredited by The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Republic of Indonesia as an academic journal (Decree No. 72/E/KPT/2024).

JCIMS has become a CrossRef Member since the year 2018. Therefore, all articles published by JCIMS will have unique DOI number. JCIMS also has indexed by DOAJ, SINTABASE, OCLC WorldCat, Kudos, CiteFactorGoogle Scholar, GarudaNeliti, Indonesia OnesearchMorarefIPI, Issuu and Academia
