Abstract

Cervical cancer remains an important women’s health concern, highlighting the need to strengthen prevention and early detection efforts at the community level. Limited knowledge and low utilisation of Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) screening remain challenges in improving screening coverage. This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and capacity of health cadres in supporting cervical cancer early detection through CESPIA (Prevent Cervical Cancer with VIA for a Happy Life), an animated educational video. The activity employed a community-based approach and was conducted in Calingcing Village, Sukahening District, Tasikmalaya Regency, involving 18 health cadres. The educational intervention consisted of CESPIA video sessions, followed by the use of flipcharts and reinforcement of cadres’ skills in delivering cervical cancer prevention and early detection information to the community. Knowledge was assessed using questionnaires administered before and after the intervention and analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The findings showed that prior to the intervention, most cadres had an overall knowledge level categorized as poor (66.66%), whereas following the intervention, all cadres (100%) achieved a good knowledge level. The mean knowledge score increased from 12.61 to 16.94, with the Wilcoxon test indicating a statistically significant difference (p<0.001). The greatest improvements were observed in knowledge of signs and symptoms, risk factors, prevention, and VIA and HPV-DNA examinations. These findings suggest that CESPIA has potential as an educational medium for strengthening cadres’ knowledge and capacity to support cervical cancer early detection. Continued cadre mentoring and monitoring of screening service utilization are recommended to facilitate sustained benefits for women of reproductive age and the wider community
