HADIS PEREMPUAN SEBAGAI SUMBER FITNAH (SHAHIH BUKHARI 5087): TELAAH KRITIS ATAS TUDUHAN MISOGINIS

Abstract

The hadith about women as a source of fitnah (temptation) in Sahih Bukhari no. 5087 has often been debated in the discourse of gender equality and Islamic feminism. Some argue that this hadith is a form of misogyny, portraying women as the cause of men's moral downfall. This study aims to critically analyze the hadith using a qualitative approach through textual and contextual methods. Primary data are drawn from canonical hadith sources such as Sahih Bukhari and its commentaries, alongside secondary sources from feminist interpretations and thematic exegesis. The findings reveal that the hadith is authentic in terms of both its chain of narration and content, and does not reflect misogynistic intent when examined through the lenses of maqāṣid al-syarī„ah, historical-social context, and hadith sciences. The term fitnah is better interpreted as a spiritual and ethical trial for men, particularly in managing their desires. This research emphasizes that literal and fragmented readings of hadith can lead to misinterpretation, and calls for a comprehensive, intertextual, and contextual hermeneutic approach to uncover the just and prophetic message of Islam.
