Correction and Retraction Policy

1. Policy Statement

Algoritma: Jurnal Ilmu Komputer dan Informatika is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that errors or concerns may be identified after an article has been published and is committed to addressing them promptly, fairly, and transparently.

This policy establishes the procedures for correcting, retracting, or issuing notices concerning published articles. The journal follows recognized publication ethics principles and relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

2. Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error is identified in a published article that requires amendment but does not invalidate the overall findings or conclusions.

Corrections may address, but are not limited to:

  • Errors in author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, or funding information.

  • Typographical or factual errors that affect the interpretation of the article.

  • Errors in tables, figures, references, equations, or other published material.

  • Omissions or inaccuracies in disclosures, including funding or conflicts of interest.

  • Other errors that can be corrected without compromising the overall reliability of the research.

The editorial team will assess the nature and significance of the reported error and determine whether a formal correction is necessary.

When a correction is published, the notice will identify the original article, describe the error, provide the corrected information, and explain the nature of the amendment. The correction notice will be linked to the original article wherever possible.

Minor typographical errors that do not affect meaning, interpretation, or the scholarly record may not require a formal correction.

3. Retractions

Retraction is an editorial action taken to alert readers that a published article is seriously unreliable or that its publication violates essential ethical or publication standards.

A retraction may be considered when there is reliable evidence of:

  1. Data fabrication or falsification.

  2. Plagiarism or substantial unattributed duplication.

  3. Serious methodological or analytical errors that invalidate the principal findings or conclusions.

  4. Unethical research practices or the absence of required ethical approval or consent, where applicable.

  5. Duplicate or redundant publication that substantially compromises the originality of the publication.

  6. Serious authorship or publication misconduct that undermines the integrity of the article.

  7. Other circumstances in which retraction is necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

Retraction is not intended to punish authors or resolve personal disputes. It is intended to correct the scholarly record and protect readers from relying on findings that are no longer considered reliable.

4. Retraction Procedure

When a potential reason for retraction is identified, the journal will undertake an appropriate assessment and, where necessary, an investigation.

The procedure may include:

  1. Receiving and documenting a report from an author, reader, editor, reviewer, institution, or other relevant party.

  2. Reviewing the available evidence and assessing the seriousness of the concern.

  3. Requesting an explanation and relevant supporting documentation from the corresponding author and other relevant parties.

  4. Consulting independent experts or the relevant research institution when necessary.

  5. Evaluating the evidence objectively and providing the affected parties with a reasonable opportunity to respond.

  6. Making a decision based on the evidence, the reliability of the article, and applicable publication ethics principles.

  7. Publishing a retraction notice when retraction is warranted.

The journal may proceed with appropriate action even if an author does not respond or disagrees with the decision, provided that the decision is supported by sufficient evidence and follows a fair editorial process.

5. Retraction Notice and Article Record

A retraction notice will clearly identify the retracted article and explain the reason for retraction to the extent that the available evidence permits.

The notice should include the article title, author names, publication details, DOI or persistent identifier where available, the reason for retraction, and the date of the retraction decision or notice.

The original article will normally remain accessible to preserve the scholarly record but will be clearly marked as retracted. The retraction notice will be linked to the original article, and the article will be identified as retracted in the relevant metadata and indexing records wherever technically possible.

The journal will avoid removing the original article entirely unless removal is required by legal obligations, safety considerations, or other exceptional circumstances.

6. Expression of Concern

If credible concerns arise but the evidence is inconclusive, or an investigation cannot be completed promptly, the journal may publish an expression of concern.

An expression of concern informs readers that a substantive issue is being examined. It does not constitute a final finding of misconduct.

The journal will review the situation when additional evidence becomes available and may subsequently issue a correction, retract the article, or close the matter without further action, depending on the findings.

7. Appeals and Disagreements

Authors who disagree with a correction or retraction decision may submit a reasoned written appeal to the Editor-in-Chief, accompanied by relevant evidence.

Where practicable, the appeal will be assessed by an editor or independent adviser who was not materially involved in the original decision.

The journal will consider appeals fairly and objectively. An appeal will not automatically suspend an action that is necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

8. Post-Publication Reporting

Readers, researchers, and other interested parties may report suspected errors or concerns regarding published articles to the editorial office.

Reports should identify the article and clearly explain the concern, with supporting evidence or documentation where available.

All reports will be assessed in accordance with this policy and, where relevant, the journal's policies on research misconduct, conflicts of interest, and post-publication discussion.

9. Editorial Independence and Confidentiality

All correction and retraction decisions will be based on the available evidence, the reliability of the published work, and the journal's ethical responsibilities.

The journal will handle allegations confidentially during the assessment process and will give relevant parties a reasonable opportunity to respond. Information will be shared only as necessary for investigation, editorial decision-making, or compliance with applicable obligations.

The journal will not issue or refuse a correction or retraction solely to protect the reputation of an author, institution, editor, or the journal itself.

10. Policy Review

This policy may be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect developments in scholarly publishing ethics and recognized international guidance.
