Integration of Cultural Ornament Motifs in Design Perspectives and Islamic Values: A Multidisciplinary Approach

Murtopo Murtopo

Abstract

This study explores the intersection of cultural ornament motifs, design principles, and Islamic values through a multidisciplinary approach. The research is motivated by the need to preserve traditional cultural motifs in the modern era while ensuring that Islamic values remain integrated into contemporary design practices. It examines the historical and artistic significance of cultural motifs, focusing on principles such as balance, symmetry, and harmony, which align with Islamic teachings. The study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach, incorporating literature reviews, design work analyses, and observations of the application of cultural motifs in fields such as architecture, textiles, and digital media. Case studies are used to analyze real-world examples of integrating cultural and Islamic elements into modern design. The findings reveal that cultural motifs not only enhance the aesthetic value of design but also serve as a medium for reflecting Islamic values, such as Tawhid (the oneness of God) and Ihsan (excellence). This integration proves effective in creating innovative works that honor both tradition and religion. In conclusion, the research highlights the significant potential of design based on cultural motifs and Islamic values to preserve cultural identity, reinforce spiritual values, and offer creative solutions relevant to modern challenges. It recommends further strengthening the synergy between culture and religion in the development of contemporary design.
