Nature's Chronicle: Geo-History and Artefacts Distribution in the Economic Patterns of Jayawarsa's Sovereignty (1186-1204 CE)

Abstract


This study aims to examine the economic patterns and social structures of the Jayawarsa sovereignty (1186-1204 CE) through a geohistorical approach. The main problem addressed is the limited exploration of how geographical conditions and cultural artifacts shape social and economic life, beyond textual records such as inscriptions and kakawin. The research uses historical and geographical variables to reconstruct community structures around the Sirah Keteng site and Mruwak Village. Utilizing geographical, archaeological, and inscription interpretation data, this study highlights human interaction with their environment in building spatial systems, economic patterns, and cosmological orientation. The findings reveal the existence of a community pattern involving people's settlements, clergy territories, and royal land grants. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the interrelation between spatial and cultural aspects in shaping the social and economic structure of the Jayawarsa period.
